I'll admit that "Messy Slick" is a questionable title, but as many people on the Siccness forums pointed out, it's certainly better than "Mitchy Marv". I'm calling it early: Messy Slick will be the best album of 2007. You're welcome. (PS- To those in the know, doesn't Mess have a bit of a Sac Masta-esque look to him on the cover there?).
Speaking of statements of that nature, I never did get around to my "end of the year" post, did I? Oops. Well, it's much too late for something like that, so I'll do a short version. Who really did it for Mr. Pilly Wonk this year? I've got three names to drop, but not enough time to go over all of them now.
For me, 2006 was really about The Pack, Mitchy Slick, and the Mob Figaz. I think you should agree with me, and I'll show you why. Today's lesson: The Pack
The Pack has become something of an obsession of mine these days. No, seriously, I can't stop listening to them, it's kinda weird. I've had this one pretty much on repeat on my iPod:
The Pack, Mistah FAB, Dem Franchize Boyz "Fresh"
I've compared these guys before (The Pack and DFB, that is), and it was really wonderful to see them hook up for a song. For the first time I have to say that Lil Uno comes through with my favorite verse (it's usually Stunna, natch!). It's just feel good music. Also, notice how the Pack kills DFB on this song.
The Pack "I Look Good"
Another feel good jam. Seriously, this could be a 2 Live Crew song, but it isn't; it's The Pack. One thing I've really come to appreciate about The Pack is that they have their own sound. They haven't gone to Rick Rock or Sean T to try and make a hit. They have their own in house producer (Young L, for the don't knows. It's not "you're ill"), who's got a unique style, and it really works for them. Also, he's made some rather interesting sampling choices in the past.

If you recognize the sample, you've probably seen Disney's Aladdin. I believe this is the one that Aladdin sings to Jazmine when they're on his magic carpet, right? Right.

I think this one is all Stunna, and I gotta say, he's my favorite member of The Pack. He's just sick, and he's only like 18.
And I challenge you to not enjoy these two classics off of the Wolfpack Muzik mixtapes. It would be really hard, cause these songs rule.

The Pack also has some creative marketing ideas. For instance, have you played The Pack Table Hockey?. You should give it a shot. It's like a regular air hockey game online, except "I'm Shinin'" is playing, and The Pack's logo is on the table. Personally, I fuck with The Helicopter Game if I'm tryna waste some time.
Oh yeah, and check out this dude from Atlanta named Wiz who re-did "Vans" to be "Jordans". I actually think he's pretty funny, if he's the dude on the first verse ("Sponge Bob Jordans, n---a what the fuck?").
