My buddy Joe, who keeps an excellent tumblr, wrote about how this song turns the whole sampling-Wayne-for-your-hook-is-lazy-songwriting critique on its head, because the Wayne line in questions makes an offhanded reference to Keak Da Sneak. I have to respectfully disagree, if anything this somehow sadder, in a creative sense. But maybe it's because I run a Google Alert on my own name (which, in my defense, has turned up some funny stuff), and feel like this is similarly pathetic.
Citing the fact that someone else has made reference to you just shows that you love that sort of validation. Shit, I do. But if you're trying to seem fiercely independent, and free of Wayne's influence - or that you are a bigger influence on Wayne than Wayne is on you - sampling his voice when he happens to mention your name, because it rhymes with what he's rapping about, seems sort of fanboyish. Like bragging about getting quoted in a Canadian newspaper.
Still, the song is good, and the Wayne sample is great, actually. I find, like Joe did, the notion that women might fight over a back issue of Murder Dog a bit preposterous. But it's nice to know that Keak da Sneak has enough copies of his issue stacked up at his house to spare one for the video shoot. Who can blame him? It's nice to know people are paying attention to you.

For some reason this post reminds me of Keak's verse on "Tell Me When to Go". I still think FAB should have been on that verse instead; his style back in his Hyphy days used to be so energetic. Fab would have made that song even more Hyphy, and it would have gave him a boost in the mainstream scene (something FAB would have benefited from more than it did for Keak).
It would have gave Fab a bigger fan base, put him on more songs with other mainstream artists and who knows, the Hyphy Movement probably would have lasted a little longer. Maybe it probably would still be alive today.
Outside of the Bay Area, everyone loved "Tell Me When to Go" but Keak's verse ruined it for mostly everyone (except for people in the Bay). No one could understand what the hell he was talking about.
