"Lightweight Jammin" looks great on paper: E-40 and the Husalah, together at last! Clyde Carson, never hurts! But, in practice, this song kinda blows. Let's start with the title, which was apparently inspired by the mediocrity of the beat. E-40 opens his verse in the self-referential style of so many student council speeches you heard in 8th grade: "I was going through some beats the other day; I ran across this". Turns out, he liked it! Clyde Carson also describes it in the opening of his verse, "that almost slap. That kinda knock. That might just clap." But when your beat sounds like a somehow worse rehash of "Tell Me When to Go", calling the song "Lightweight Jammin", and doing nothing but rap about the beat, only reminds the listener how bad the beat really is. Listening to Husalah trying to sing over a beat like this, you almost feel bad for him.
Whoever it was that made E-40 believe he sounds good over drum-only beats -- was it The Clipse? -- needs to tell him otherwise. Droop-E seems to get what works well for his dad: warped synths and sinister bass lines.

yeah I'll take this post one step further by saying that to me 40's whole album just feels like a miss. Every beat sounds like it's got a high school marching band in it.

Sure the beat is easy and was made by the dude with the 24oz PBR, but 40 has no dreads, Hus is out and rapping about 26's again. Maybe the whole video should have been just the two black dudes having way too much fun dancing.
